Rotating Tires on FWD & RWD Vehicles

Front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive is where the power from the engine is sent. With FWD cars, it goes to the front tires and rear tires on RWD vehicles. This means that the set of tires that gets most of the engine power wears faster than the others. Keep these rotation tips in mind when choosing between FWD and RWD vehicles:

  • FWD and RWD cars need to have the tire rotation performed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.
  • If you’re doing the tire rotation on your FWD vehicle, flip sides when moving the rear tires. The rear right tire will go on the front left. However, when moving the front tires to the back, they stay on the same side.
  • When rotating tires on an RWD car, invert the process above. Flip sides when moving the front tires to the back, but keep the rear tires on the same side when moving them forward.
  • Remember your driving habits. If you enjoy off-roading, that affects how often you should rotate your tires.
